New Delhi, Aug 15 (PTI) The tricolour was ceremonially hoisted at the Delhi Police headquarters on Saturday to mark the 80th Independence Day, with senior officers calling upon the force to uphold the values of freedom, justice, equality and dignity.

Special Commissioner of Police Rajesh Khurana hoisted the national flag on the lawns of the police headquarters on Jai Singh Road and extended Independence Day greetings to the force personnel and their families.

Khurana said the occasion was a reminder of the struggle and sacrifices made during the freedom movement and the responsibility of the police force to safeguard the values for which the nation stands.

He said Delhi Police personnel must protect citizens’ rights, maintain peace and public order, prevent and detect crime and meet every challenge with professionalism, competence and sensitivity.

The senior officer also paid homage to police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. PTI BM ARI
