New Delhi, Aug 31 (PTI) A 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing gold and silver jewellery kept at his house for his elder brother’s wedding in northeast Delhi’s Khajuri Khas area, police said on Monday.
The accused, Khubeb alias Kaif, allegedly stole the jewellery and Rs 15,000 from his father’s savings, they said.
According to the police, the complainant, Hafiz Najmul Hassan, had purchased the jewellery for his son Mohammad Salman, whose marriage was fixed for September 13.
“On August 28, he noticed that Rs 15,000 was missing and later found that gold and silver ornaments kept at home had also been stolen,” a senior police officer said.
During the inquiry, suspicion fell on Khubeb, who allegedly admitted to the theft and disclosed that he had sold the stolen jewellery.
An FIR was registered at Khajuri Khas police station on August 29. A police team apprehended Khubeb the same day.
Based on his disclosure, a gold finger ring and a pair of gold earrings were recovered on August 30 from Shaista (37), the mother of his friend, police said.
