New Delhi, Sep 28 (PTI) Delhi Police has arrested a man allegedly involved in an extortion conspiracy targeting a Rohini-based financier and seized two pistols and 14 live cartridges from his possession, an officer said on Monday.
The accused, identified as Harender Nagar alias KD, allegedly demanded Rs 1 crore from the financier as protection money and later came to Delhi with an intention to eliminate him after he refused to pay, he said.
“Nagar was also wanted in connection with a robbery case registered at Baldev Nagar police station in Haryana’s Ambala in which around 1.5 kg of gold jewellery was looted from a van on August 18,” he said.
According to police, the crime branch received specific information on September 9 about Nagar’s presence in Delhi and his involvement in extortion calls made to the financier.
A team developed technical surveillance to track the accused and laid an interception near a drain in Sector 24 in Rohini. Nagar was apprehended from the spot. During his search, one illegal pistol and five live cartridges were recovered from his pocket. Another pistol and four cartridges were recovered from his bag, while five additional live cartridges were also seized.
During interrogation, Nagar disclosed that he and his associate Deepak had hatched a conspiracy to extort Rs 1 crore from the financier and had made threatening calls demanding the money, according to police.
Nagar said that he had come to Delhi with an intention to eliminate the financier after the latter refused to pay, they said.
“The accused also disclosed his involvement in the Ambala gold robbery. Nagar claimed that he, Deepak, Chhotu and others robbed around 1.5 kg of gold jewellery from the van on August 18. He told police that Deepak took the robbed jewellery for sale,” the officer said.
Police said three to four associates in the Ambala case had already been arrested by the Haryana Police.
Nagar also disclosed that Deepak was associated with the Bhau gang and had supplied the firearms and ammunition recovered from him. Nagar has four previous cases registered against him in Delhi and Haryana, including cases relating to kidnapping for ransom, cheating, assault and illegal possession of arms, police said.
Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the remaining associates. PTI BM RT
