New Delhi, June 5 (PTI) Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has approved the allotment of Gram Sabha land for setting up two Ayushman Arogya Mandir health centres and a gaushala in different parts of Delhi, Lok Niwas officials said on Friday.

Officials said Gram Sabha land measuring 28 bighas and 5 biswa in Sungarpur Village in North Delhi has been approved for a period of 99 years for setting up a gaushala there.

Biswa is a traditional land measurement unit used in rural and agricultural areas across north Indian states.

The allotment will go to the Animal Husbandry Unit of the Delhi government’s Development Department to develop the gaushala at the site.

This decision will provide a major boost to an earlier government decision from August 2025 to establish at least one gaushala and one dog shelter in every district of Delhi.

Officials said the decision was taken in a meeting chaired by chief minister Rekha Gupta.

Sandhu has also approved the allotment of Gram Sabha land for setting up Ayushman Arogya Mandir at Mangeshpur in outer North Delhi and Fatehpur Beri in South Delhi, at a token fee of one rupee, officials said.

Aarogya Mandirs face a “serious challenge” due to a lack of land, officials said.

With the LG’s decision, the number of such allotments to Aarogya Mandirs has risen to 14: Three locations in North Delhi, nine in South-West Delhi and one each in South East and South Delhi, they said. PTI VIT ASD ASD
