New Delhi, Oct 26 (PTI) Delhi LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu has approved an amendment to the recruitment rules for patwaris (revenue officials), making graduation an essential qualification for appointment.

Under the amended recruitment rules for the appointment of patwaris in the Revenue Department, the computer diploma requirement has been dropped, said an LG office note.

There are 230 posts of patwaris in 13 districts of Delhi, out of which only 60 are currently filled, it said. The posts were increased from earlier 218 to 230 in view of the reorganisation of districts from earlier 11 to now 13.

In the last recruitment process by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB), no candidate was able to fulfil the mandatory educational qualification of a one-year diploma course in computer from a government-recognised institution, said the note.

Earlier, the essential qualification for the post of patwari was 10+2 from a recognised board with mathematics as one of the subjects, along with a one-year diploma course in computer from a government-recognised institution.

Graduation from a university, along with a diploma/certification course in Cadastral Survey/Total Station Method Survey and one year of field experience, was desirable.

After the amendment, the essential qualification is graduation from a recognised university in any discipline. The department will impart three months of training in computer and surveying & mapping to the new incumbents, it said.

In another change, now the posts of patwaris will also be filled through personnel taken on deputation from central, state or UT governments.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
