New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI) A Delhi court on Friday allowed the Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) plea seeking three-day transit remand of drug kingpin Virender Singh Basoya, who was extradited from the UAE, to produce him before a Pune court.
Judicial Magistrate Twinkle Chawla allowed the NCB’s application.
During the proceedings, the NCB said that Basoya would be taken from Delhi to Pune by flight and permission would have to be obtained from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) for transporting him by air.
With August 15 a national holiday, it is likely that the permission will be obtained on Sunday, the agency said.
According to the NCB, permission to transport an accused by plane is granted only after the transit remand order is issued.
“We have to produce Virendra Basoya before the court that had issued the NBW (non-bailable warrant). He had been absconding since 2024. This case was transferred to NCB Mumbai from Pune Police.
“Already 16 people have been arrested in the case and a chargesheet has been filed against them,” the agency said.
Basoya’s name had surfaced in a seizure of 500 grams of Mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant commonly known by the street name “meow meow”, in Pune in 2024.
The probe was later expanded to identify and dismantle the entire drug trafficking network, resulting in the recovery of approximately 867 kg of Mephedrone from Pune and 970 kg from Delhi, taking the total recovery to approximately 1,837 kg.
The NCB’s Mumbai unit took over the investigation and identified Basoya as the alleged mastermind who coordinated activities of the syndicate from foreign shores and smuggled out Mephedrone consignments from India to other countries.
His name also cropped up in a separate case of Delhi Police Special Cell related to international cocaine trafficking. PTI MNR DIV DIV
