New Delhi, Oct 11 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday offered prayers at Jhandewala temple on the first day of Navratri and reiterated that “attempts to hold the city hostage” or damage public property would not be tolerated.
Her remarks came a day after Delhi Police and security forces detained over 7,000 protesters, including leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and several politicians, who allegedly attempted to gather at Jantar Mantar.
Gupta offered prayers to Maa Bhagwati and performed rituals at the temple, seeking happiness, peace, prosperity and good health for the country’s people, according to a statement issued by the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office.
Extending her Navratri greetings to the people, Gupta said “May the goddess grant wisdom to those spreading anarchy in Delhi and those placing their own interests above the nation’s welfare and getting troubled by the country’s progress.”
On Saturday, Gupta had criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing them of attempting to create chaos in the national capital with the help of their “B-Team”, the CJP.
She said the people of Delhi have nothing to do with those “who cannot think about the country”. “Everyone has the right to express their views in a democracy but inconveniencing people, damaging public property and disrupting the normal order of the city in the name of protest are unacceptable.”
Delhi government is committed to ensuring the safety and convenience of its citizens and maintaining the city’s normal functioning and the government would ensure Delhi’s residents did not face any unnecessary inconvenience, she said.
“Attempts to hold the city hostage or damage public property would not be tolerated. Ensuring the safety and convenience of ordinary citizens and maintaining the city’s order remain the government’s priorities,” she added. PTI VIT SMV VIT SMV SKY
