New Delhi, Jul 14 (PTI) As a 12-year-old schoolgirl lay motionless in a pool of blood after a school bus collided with the e-rickshaw she was travelling in near Majlis Park Metro Station on Tuesday morning, bystanders recorded videos instead of helping her, a local gym worker who rushed her to hospital claimed.

Govinda, who works at a nearby gym, said he reached the accident spot within 8 to 10 minutes while on his way to work and was shocked by what he saw.

“When I reached there, the girl was lying in a pool of blood. People were standing around, but many were busy making videos on their phones. I picked her up immediately and rushed her to the hospital,” he claimed.

According to him, the other children travelling in the same e-rickshaw were pleading with folded hands for someone to help.

“The children were crying and requesting people to save her, but many were only recording the scene. We took her to the hospital, but the doctors declared her dead,” Govinda said.

The deceased, identified as Priyanshi, a resident of Rama Garden in Mukundpur, was on her way to school when the accident occurred around 6.45 am. Police received a call about the accident at 7 am and immediately rushed a team to the site.

Her grieving family members said Priyanshi and her elder sister had boarded the e-rickshaw just before the accident.

“We had safely seated both the girls in the battery rickshaw. Near Majlis Park, a bus hit it, causing the younger sister to fall onto the road. She then came under the bus tyres,” they said.

Another family member, Rakesh, said they received a phone call informing them that Priyanshi had died in the accident.

“When we questioned the bus driver, he admitted that a mistake had happened. There were many children inside the bus as well, while four children were travelling in the e-rickshaw,” he said.

The family alleged that the school bus was being driven at a high speed and in a reckless manner.

Police said a preliminary inquiry revealed that the school bus, driven by Kamal Singh (55), collided with the e-rickshaw carrying schoolchildren.

Priyanshi was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. No other child travelling in the e-rickshaw was injured.

Police have apprehended the bus driver and detained the e-rickshaw driver, seized both vehicles, and registered a case. CCTV footage from the area is being examined as part of the investigation. PTI BM KSI KSI
