New Delhi: There was delay in bringing back the body of a deceased student from Ukraine because a dead body takes up more space than the living, a BJP legislator said Thursday.
MLA from Hubli-Dharwad in Karnataka, Arvind Bellad was asked about the uncertainty in bringing back the deceased medical student’s body as his parents waited anxiously in hometown Haveri, Karnataka.
The BJP leader replied: “We are trying. It is a battlefield. There is a war on. You know what the situation is. It is difficult to bring back those who are alive. It is very tough to bring back a dead body. More space is needed for a coffin. In its place, eight people can be accommodated.”
Bellad added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was making all efforts to bring back the remains of Naveen Shekharappa Gyangoudar.
Naveen’s father Shekharappa was assured that the student’s body would be home within two days, a channel reported.
He has directly requested Modi and Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to look into the matter.
The medical student – studying in his fourth year at the Kharkiv National Medical College – had stepped out of his bunker to buy food when he was killed in shelling.
