Basti (UP), Aug 23 (PTI) A 50-year-old man was allegedly killed by his daughter and her lover for opposing their relationship, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Friday in Ramwapur Tiwari village, they said.

The deceased, identified as Krishna, was allegedly attacked after he saw his daughter with her lover near a canal and allegedly began hitting them with a stick, according to the complaint lodged by the victim’s brother Kashiram.

The duo allegedly snatched the stick from him and attacked Krishna several times with a sickle attached to it, leaving him seriously injured.

They allegedly left him unconscious at the spot and returned to their homes.

Police said Krishna had been opposing the relationship and was trying to arrange his daughter’s marriage elsewhere.

When Krishna did not return home late in the night, his family members began searching for him and subsequently learnt about the incident.

An FIR has been registered at Dubaulia police station on the basis of Kashiram’s complaint.

Superintendent of Police, Basti, Yashveer Singh said the preliminary investigation indicated that the murder was linked to the love affair.

“Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under relevant sections and both accused — the deceased’s daughter and her lover — have been arrested,” he said.PTI COR ABN DV DV

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
