Shimla, Jun 26 (PTI) Hundreds of cyclists came together on Friday for the Heritage Cycling Ride, delivering a powerful message against drug abuse while promoting fitness, healthy living and an active lifestyle.

The event was organised under Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment in association with the Shimla Cycling Association and the Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA), a statement said.

Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi flagged it off from the historic Ridge Ground here, the statement said.

Addressing the participants, Mohit Sood, Secretary of the cycling association, said, “Cycling is much more than a sport. It is a way of life.” Through such initiatives, we are working towards building a strong cycling culture in Shimla and inspiring our youth to channelise their energy towards sports, fitness and outdoor activities instead of drugs, he said in the statement.

Every young person who chooses a bicycle over addiction is a step toward a healthier and stronger Himachal, he added.

The organisers reiterated their commitment to making cycling a regular community movement through heritage rides, school outreach programmes, fitness campaigns and sustainable mobility initiatives.

They expressed confidence that such events would motivate more young people to adopt healthy lifestyles and contribute toward the vision of a fit, green and nasha mukt Himachal Pradesh. PTI BPL SHS SHS
