Thane, Apr 18 (PTI) A couple was killed after a speeding container truck collided with their motorcycle on a highway in Maharashtra’s Thane district in the early hours of Saturday, police said.
The fatal crash occurred around 7.25 am on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway in the Kalwa area, an official said.
According to police, the newly married couple, both bank employees, were travelling to Dombivli when the container truck hit their two-wheeler, leaving them seriously injured.
The victims were rushed to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, where doctors declared them dead, the official said.
Passersby caught the truck driver, Shiv Bahadur, at the scene and handed him over to the Kalwa police, and a case will be registered against him, DCP (Traffic) Pankaj Shirsat said.
The police are currently recording statements and examining CCTV footage from the toll plaza area to investigate the crash. PTI COR ARU
