New Delhi: The Delhi Police has sought a report from a probe committee formed in January to look into sexual harassment allegations against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Top wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, resumed their sit-in protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar Sunday against the delay in taking action against Singh and the lack of an FIR.

An oversight committee was formed on 23 January to probe the allegations against Singh, and its deadline for a report was extended by two weeks on 23 February.

Sakshi Malik alleged Sunday that a complaint filed two days ago against Singh was yet to see an FIR. “There are seven female wrestlers (who have filed separate complaints) and one of them is a minor. We want the investigation to happen fast. It is a sensitive matter. We are being framed as liars which we cannot bear. We are waiting for two and a half months now but no one is listening,” Malik said.

Amid this ongoing protest, the Delhi Police has started a probe into their complaint, news agency ANI said.

Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia said earlier Monday that all parties were welcome to join their protest, whether it was the BJP, the Congress or the Aam Aadmi Party. He clarified that wrestlers were not attached to any particular political disposition, and would welcome everybody’s support.

Punia has said the wrestlers would continue their protest against the WFI until Brij Bhushan Singh was arrested.

Top wrestlers held a sit-in protest in Jantar Mantar first in January, demanding Brij Bhushan be removed from the head office and the WFI disbanded. They had accused the body and its chief of sexual harassment and mistreatment of wrestlers.
