Gurugram, Jul 9 (PTI) A Haryana Police constable was killed while an exemptee sub-inspector (ESI) sustained serious injuries after a speeding truck allegedly hit a stationary police vehicle on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway in Haryana’s Nuh district on Thursday, police said.

The accident took place in the early hours of the day near the Goyla village when a police team reached the expressway to take into custody a vehicle allegedly transporting cattle. However, upon developing a mechanical fault, they parked their vehicle on the roadside, they said.

A speeding truck rammed into the stationary vehicle, killing Constable Girish (26) on the spot and critically injuring Sub-Inspector Mukesh Phogat (49) who was taken to Medanta Hospital, where his condition is said to be critical, the police said.

During the incident, another policeman Sahil escaped unhurt, they said.

The police registered a case and sent the body for a postmortem, they said, adding that a separate FIR was registered against the driver of the cattle-laden vehicle, Ranu Singh, a resident of the Kanpur Dehat district in Uttar Pradesh.

“We have seized the vehicle loaded with cattle and the truck that caused the collision. A further probe is underway,” a Nuh police spokesperson said, adding that 15 cows were rescued from the vehicle.
