Mathura(UP), Jul 12 (PTI) A police constable was found dead with a gunshot injury outside a bank here, with a preliminary probe indicating that he had committed suicide, police said on Sunday.

City Superintendent of Police Rajeev Kumar Singh said the deceased, identified as Ajit Singh (42), was posted on security duty at the Canara Bank branch in the Civil Lines area for the past 12 years. Another constable was also on duty with him on Saturday night.

The deceased constable’s colleague told police that he heard a gunshot at around 9 pm and rushed inside, where he found Singh lying in a pool of blood with his service rifle positioned against his neck. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police said prima facie it was a case of suicide, with initial inquiries indicating that he had been under stress due to family-related issues.

The service rifle and mobile phone of the deceased have been seized for investigation. PTI COR CDN DV DV
