New Delhi, Sep 14 (PTI) The BJP on Monday hailed the party’s performance in the Rajasthan local body elections, saying it is heading towards a “spectacular victory” against the Congress’ “jhooth ki goonj” and propaganda.
Talking to reporters here, BJP MP and national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi also highlighted the BJP’s performance in Kota, where Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had conducted the party’s student-centric programme, ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’, saying the results showed that there was “more propaganda and less reality” in the Congress’s claims.
The ruling BJP in Rajasthan increased its lead over the Congress in the urban local body elections on Monday, winning over 4,171 wards against the opposition party’s 3,597 as results for at least 10,200 wards were declared.
The BJP secured a clear majority in the 80-member Udaipur Municipal Corporation by winning 53 wards, in the 70-member Bhilwara Municipal Corporation by securing 45 wards, and in the 100-member Kota Municipal Corporation by bagging 53 wards. The Congress emerged victorious in Bikaner and was leading in Ajmer and Pali, whereas the BJP edged past it in Jaipur and Alwar.
Trivedi said elections were held for 309 bodies in Rajasthan and claimed that the BJP, along with its allies, was in a position to win almost all the municipal corporations.
He added that these included 10 municipal corporations, 47 municipal councils and 252 municipal boards.
“At present, the Congress is ahead in only one out of 10 municipal corporations, while in all the remaining municipal corporations, the BJP, along with its allies, is in a position to form the government,” he said.
He claimed that the BJP’s performance in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota shows that the people of Rajasthan have “completely rejected” the policy of dividing municipal corporations.
“This once again shows that the people’s trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi is continuously increasing, and the people of Rajasthan have also given their positive approval to the government of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma,” he said.
Trivedi especially highlighted the BJP’s performance in Kota, where Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had conducted the party’s student-centric programme, Chhatron Ki Goonj’, saying the results showed that there was “more propaganda and less reality” in the Congress’s claims.
“In Kota, where Rahul Gandhi had gone and attempted to create ‘jhooth ki goonj’, the BJP appears to be winning spectacularly. This, somewhere, shows that in the Congress party’s claims, there is more propaganda and less reality,” he claimed.
He alleged that the Congress government had “played with” the local body elections in Rajasthan in the past and said the people have given it a “befitting reply”.
“During the Congress government, the local body elections in Rajasthan were conducted in eight phases. Our government conducted them in a single phase,” he said.
“We did one state, one election. The Congress conducted the elections in phases and even after that, it could not achieve success,” he said.
Trivedi also pointed to the BJP’s gains in six districts — Bundi, Dausa, Hanumangarh, Karauli, Dholpur and Bharatpur — where, he said, the party had failed to form even a single board in any local body in the previous elections.
“This time, the BJP is moving ahead strongly in these districts as well,” he said, describing it as an important step towards the BJP’s “social and geographical expansion”.
“Wherever the Congress party may engage in propaganda and make whatever meaningless statements it wants to, the ‘jhooth ki goonj’ becomes ineffective and futile before the truth,” Trivedi said. PTI ADI ADI KVK KVK
