New Delhi: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Wednesday slammed the Centre over the action of investigative agencies against former finance minister P Chidambaram, calling the Modi government “spineless” and alleging it was hunting down someone who speaks a truth “inconvenient to cowards”.

Priyanka said the party stands by Chidambaram, while Rahul accused the government of using the ED, the CBI and sections of the media to “character assassinate” the veteran Congress leader.

I strongly condemn this disgraceful misuse of power.

Priyanka and Rahul’s expression of strong support to Chidambaram, who has also been a home minister, came a day after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him any protection from arrest in the INX media case.

Hours after the High Court ruling, a team of CBI officers landed at Chidambaram’s posh Jor Bagh residence to locate him, but left after not finding the senior Congress leader there.

“An extremely qualified and respected member of the Rajya Sabha, P Chidambaram ji has served our nation with loyalty for decades including as Finance Minister & Home Minister,” Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet.

“He unhesitatingly speaks truth to power and exposes the failures of this government, but the truth is inconvenient to cowards so he is being shamefully hunted down. We stand by him and will continue to fight for the truth no matter what the consequences are,” she said.

  1. Why are they blaming the Modi government when it is the highly incriminating remarks of the HC Judge aganist PC that they should be talking about? The Judge has not held back anything and has crucified PC in his order. What the government has done is only a legal and natural follow up of that order. Are Rahul and PGV claiming that the Law should not apply to PC? WHY?
