Hyderabad, Jul 15 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said the Congress government accorded top priority to strengthening the government schools in the state.

Speaking after inaugurating a girls high school building in Wanaparthy district, he expressed concern that student enrollment in government schools declined due to a lack of basic infrastructure.

Attacking the previous BRS government, he said it neglected school education and failed to honour the aspirations and sacrifices of the “martyrs” who fought for Telangana statehood.

Unless government schools are strengthened, the problem would remain unresolved even after 100 years, he said.

Talking about the government’s efforts to improve education, he said Rs 1.08 lakh is spent per student annually.

Telangana currently ranks 18th in the country in the education sector and it is our collective responsibility to elevate the state to the top two positions, Reddy said.

Asserting that the future of Telangana lies in its classrooms, he said he kept the education portfolio with himself without allocating it to other ministers.

Highlighting the state government’s initiatives to equip students and youth with technical skills, he said ITIs have been upgraded as Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs).

The government’s initiatives are creating excellent opportunities for blue-collar jobs in Germany and Japan, he added. PTI SJR SJR KH
