Thiruvananthapuram, May 18 (PTI) Punya Salila Srivastava, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, on Monday released a Rs 60 commemorative coin to mark the diamond jubilee of HLL Lifecare Limited during the organisation’s valedictory function, officials said.

HLL Lifecare Limited, in a statement, said the coin issued by the Government of India commemorates its six decades of service in public healthcare and social development initiatives.

HLL is a Miniratna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Speaking on the occasion, Srivastava lauded HLL’s contribution to India’s public healthcare ecosystem and its continued commitment to innovation, affordability and inclusive healthcare delivery.

“HLL has consistently lived up to the trust reposed in it by the Union Ministry. The organisation has identified critical gaps in healthcare delivery and addressed them through progressive, research-based initiatives. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has immense confidence in the organisation’s capabilities,” she said.

She noted that through HLL’s AMRIT pharmacy network, cancer medicines, branded drugs and medical devices have been made available to patients at discounts of up to 50 per cent.

During Operation Sindoor, HLL ensured the timely supply of essential medical products, including sutures, surgical items, medicines and BHISHM cubes, she said, adding that the organisation also played a key role during the Covid-19-induced pandemic by ensuring the availability of essential medicines and healthcare supplies.

“Whenever the nation has faced a crisis, HLL has risen to the occasion with exemplary service,” she added.

Dr Anitha Thampi, Chairman and Managing Director of HLL Lifecare Limited, who presided over the function, said the organisation’s responsibility towards society had grown further as it completed 60 years.

“From a single contraceptive brand, HLL has evolved into one of India’s most comprehensive public healthcare organisations. Over the years, it has expanded into diverse sectors, including contraceptives, hospital products, women’s healthcare, affordable diagnostics, retail pharmacy and emergency response services,” she said.

She added that the organisation aims to expand into emerging areas such as nutrition, AI-enabled healthcare solutions and new public health initiatives.

A series of initiatives and product launches also marked the occasion, including the Health Innovation Translation Scale-Up Centre, established in association with IIT Madras, and the HLL Parivartan Wellness Clinic, the statement said.

The commemorative coin’s presentation stands, and inaugural frames were produced by the India Government Mint, Hyderabad, under the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL), HLL said.

Established in 1966 as part of the National Family Planning Programme, HLL has played a crucial role in ensuring contraceptive security in the country.

HLL officials said the company has also recorded strong financial performance in recent years.

For the financial year 2024–25, it made one of its highest-ever dividend contributions of Rs 69.53 crore to the Government of India, officials added. PTI TBA SSK
