New Delhi: Comedian Raju Srivastavhas died in Delhi, unable to recover from a heart attack he suffered over a month ago while working out in a gym. He was 58.
Srivastav was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on 10 August. The popular comedian-actor was in the intensive care unit since admission and on ventilator support.
A familiar face in the entertainment industry since the 1980s, Srivastav catapulted to fame in the first season of the reality stand-up comedy show, “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge” in 2005.
Srivastav also acted in Hindi films such as “Maine Pyar Kiya”, “Baazigar”, the remake of “Bombay to Goa” and “Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya”. He was the chairperson of the Film Development Council Uttar Pradesh.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP party chief J.P. Nadda and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were among many who condoled the comedian’s death.
“He had a unique style,” Amit Shah said, while Nadda praised the “different mark” he left in the world of comedy.
