Srinagar, Sep 13 (PTI) The Army on Sunday paid rich tributes to Colonel Manpreet Singh and three other bravehearts on the fourth anniversary of Operation Gadool, commemorating their supreme sacrifice during the anti-terror operation in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The event, organised by 19 Rashtriya Rifles at its Larkipora battalion headquarters, featured a solemn wreath-laying ceremony and the plantation of four Chinar saplings at the ‘Colonel Manpreet Singh Dwar’ in memory of the fallen heroes.
Colonel Singh, the Commanding Officer of 19 RR, laid down his life alongside Major Aashish Dhonchak, Jammu and Kashmir Police Deputy Superintendent Humayun Muzzammil Bhat, and Sepoy Pardeep Singh during the September 2023 encounter in the dense forests of Kokernag. Two terrorists, including top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Uzair Khan, are believed to have been killed in the week-long operation.
Remembered as a exceptionally courageous officer, Colonel Singh had extensively served in the high-risk, terrorism-affected belts of Anantnag, including Larkipora, Zaldoora, and Kokernag.
“The four Chinar saplings planted in the vicinity of Colonel Manpreet Singh Dwar will stand as a living memorial to the bravehearts. The Chinar—deeply rooted in the heritage of Jammu and Kashmir—symbolises strength, resilience, and an enduring connection with future generations,” an official said.
The official added that the leadership, courage, and selfless devotion displayed by Colonel Singh and his team remain an enduring source of inspiration for security personnel and the people of the region.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Anantnag) Amod Ashok Nagpure and Commanding Officer of 19 Rashtriya Rifles Colonel Rohit Rattan joined other senior officers from the military and police to lay wreaths.
