Nagpur, Nov 7 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said permission will be granted for the drilling of borewells wherever possible amid the drought in the state.
The CM celebrated Diwali while staying at the home of farmer Rambhau Balpande in Lohari Savanga village here.
“The CM held discussions with Rambhau Balpande about the challenges facing farmers and how these difficulties could be overcome. He also offered reassurance to worried farmers,” a release of the District Information Office (DIO) said.
Addressing the farmers, Fadnavis said he stood firmly behind them, adding that his visit to the village was to understand the prevailing conditions.
The CM discussed the crops being cultivated and the losses caused by the drought, asserting that weather change had caused excessive rainfall in some districts, followed by a long dry spell that damaged produce.
“Large quantities of oranges and sweet lime are produced in Katol and Narkhed. However, restrictions imposed by Bangladesh have caused losses to farmers. A major processing project is being launched in Mihan, which will provide farmers with an opportunity to process these crops,” the CM said.
Fadnavis also urged farmers to take advantage of the scheme for installing fencing to protect agricultural land.
The DIO release said discussions were also held with farmers on measures to protect the Rabi crop.
Farmer Balpande said he was proud that the CM tasted the chutney and ‘bakri’ at his house.
“The Chief Minister came to our home to share our sorrow and offer reassurance, and he also stayed with us. His words have given us courage to overcome this crisis,” he said. PTI CLS BNM
