Madurai, May 16 (PTI) TVK Madurai Central MLA Madhar Badhurudeen on Saturday said that Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has given the police a free hand to act against those who violate law, be it running of illegal bars or sale of banned Gutkha products.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting civic amenities in and around the famed Meenakshi Amman Temple here, Badhurudeen said officials have been requested to strengthen civic amenties including garbage clearance, street lights and drainage system.

Be it illegal bars or vending of liquor beyond the permitted hours or sale of Gutkha products, tough action must be taken in sync with CM Vijay’s vision for clean, transparent governance, he said.

“Our Chief Minister has given a free hand to police to act,” he said, adding that there shall not be any interference from any quarters incluing party workers as this is the people’s government.

The MLA said he inspected the civic amenities in and around the Meenakshi Amman temple, and noticed that there are issues in the drainage system due to seepage, and it has to be plugged immediately.

The legislator said he called on officials in this regard and urged them to take immediate action as the temple is visited by pilgrims from everywhere. PTI VGN VGN ROH
