Bulandshahr (UP), Jul 28 (PTI) An 11-year-old girl fell into an open drain along a waterlogged street in the city while returning home from school on Tuesday, prompting a large-scale search operation, officials said.

The girl, identified as Charu Kashyap — a Class 4 student — is yet to be traced.

Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Flood PAC, the municipal council and local divers are carrying out the rescue operation, Circle Officer Shobhit Kumar said.

“Due to waterlogging, the girl could not realise that a portion of the drain was uncovered, which led to the incident,” he said.

Municipal Council Chairperson Deepti Mittal said she received information about the incident from a local councillor.

“The girl was returning from school when she was swept away in the drain. Teams of the municipal council and the district administration are at the spot. We pray for her safety,” Mittal said. PTI COR KIS ARB ARB
