New Delhi: A Class 10 student of the Army Public School in New Delhi died allegedly by suicide Monday at his home in Delhi Cantonment.
The 16-year-old was the son of an Army personnel.
Police investigating the case said the boy hanged himself from a ceiling fan with a ‘dupatta’ in his home.
The incident took place Monday evening, and while the family called the police, they had not filed a complaint, ThePrint has learnt.
Sources in the Delhi Police said that the last rites of the boy took place Tuesday and that his parents would be questioned further to ascertain the factors that could have led the minor taking this path. The police also said no suicide note was found.
ThePrint has also learnt that the boy was denied the admit card for the CBSE board exam that began 15 February.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West District, Rohit Meena said all facts of the case, including the denial of the admit card, were being investigated.
“Postmortem was conducted today (Tuesday) and the body has been handed over to the parents. Facts regarding the admit card are being verified. No complaint has been submitted by parents/anyone in the matter. Further investigation is underway from all angles,” DCP Meena said in a statement.
He also said an inquiry would be done under Section 174 of the CrPC, which empowers police officer to investigate the cause of unnatural death such as suicides and report to a local magistrate.
