Patna, Sep 17 (PTI) Child help desks will be established at every police station in Bihar by Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 in a bid to strengthen protection of minors, an official statement said on Thursday.
The desks will be located at visible and easily accessible places within police station premises and kept separate from the lock-up, it said.
The initiative is being undertaken by the Home Department in accordance with the provisions of the Bihar Police Act, 2007, and guidelines of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
According to the statement issued by the police headquarters here, details, including the name, designation and mobile numbers of the child welfare police officer and the district child protection officer will be prominently displayed.
Women police personnel will be deputed to deal with issues concerning girls, while the displayed contact numbers will remain active round the clock, the statement said, adding, “e-complaints and requests for assistance from children and their parents will be addressed promptly within a stipulated timeframe, with proper records maintained”.
The child desks will be regularly monitored by deputy superintendents of police, officers in-charge of Special Juvenile Police Units and other senior district-level officers.
The district authorities have been directed to submit compliance reports to the headquarters by October 5, the statement added. PTI PKD BDC
