New Delhi: On Tuesday, security forces exchanged fire with Naxal insurgents in the jungles of Purangel near the border of Dantewada and Bijapur in Chhattisgarh, news agency ANI reported, quoting sources.

A naxal’s body has been recovered, along with weapons seized from the encounter site, it added.

A joint team comprising of Dantewada District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were conducting search operations at the site, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kirandul police station.

The search operations began early in the morning and the body of a Naxal was found after an exchange of fire with security forces. Weapons were also seized from the site.

Meanwhile, four Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, a senior police official said Tuesday morning.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Gadchiroli, Nilotpal, informed that during an early morning search operation in the Kolamarka mountains, which are situated 5 kilometers southeast of SPS Repanpalli, the security teams encountered indiscriminate firing from Naxals.
