Morinda, Sep 28 (PTI) Former Punjab chief minister and Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi on Monday alleged that the Bhagwant Mann government was being “managed and controlled” by people from outside the state appointed by the Aam Aadmi Party to various positions.
Talking to reporters at his residence here, Channi alleged that such individuals were drawing salaries and enjoying perks from the Punjab exchequer, besides being provided security and government accommodation meant for ministers.
He alleged that they were also dictating terms to ministers and officials of the state government.
Channi named several AAP leaders whom he claimed were from outside Punjab and held influential positions while enjoying various government facilities.
He claimed that several individuals who had earlier held positions in the Delhi government and the AAP were now playing important roles in the functioning of the Punjab government.
He questioned in what capacity these individuals attended government meetings and issued directions to ministers and senior officials.
The former chief minister alleged that the chief minister and ministers had limited control over the functioning of the government, while people from outside Punjab were influencing important decisions.
Channi further alleged that some of these individuals had been allotted rooms in government offices in Punjab, where they held meetings with officials.
He said Punjab had produced capable leaders, citing former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who served in some of the country’s highest positions.
Channi alleged that the AAP government was relying on people from outside Punjab instead of giving important responsibilities to capable people from the state.
Targeting Mann, Channi alleged that the chief minister had been reduced to merely signing files.
He said if the Congress formed the government in Punjab, the entire matter concerning such appointments, salaries and facilities would be investigated and accountability fixed. PTI COR CHS MDO
