New Delhi, Oct 26 (PTI) The Centre has sought applications from eligible candidates to fill two posts of information commissioners in the transparency watchdog CIC, according to an official order.

The Central Information Commission, mandated to decide appeals and complaints under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, is headed by a chief information commissioner and can have a maximum of 10 information commissioners.

“It is proposed to appoint Information Commissioners, not exceeding two, as may be deemed necessary in the Central Information Commission,” said the order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

Eligible persons can send their particulars in a prescribed proforma to the Department of Personnel and Training latest by November 20.

The CIC, at present, is working in its full strength — that is, the chief information commissioner and 10 information commissioners, according to its website.

The RTI Act provides that the information commissioner “shall be a person of eminence in public life with wide knowledge and experience in law, science and technology, social service, management, journalism, mass-media or administration and governance”.

Persons, who have attained the age of 65 years, shall not be eligible for appointment, said the order dated October 22.

Persons, who are serving under the state/central government or any other organisation, should send their particulars through proper channels (administrative ministry/department/state/UTs AKV KVK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
