Mumbai, Sep 13 (PTI) Central Railway is monitoring the reinforced earth (RE) wall of a National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) road overbridge in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district after a portion of it collapsed on July 31, officials said on Sunday.
One of the two carriageways of the bridge has since been closed to road traffic, while the other, towards Nagpur, remains operational. Railway tracks and train operations have not been affected by the incident, CR said in a release.
The bridge is located on the Paldhi-Tarsoad bypass highway and crosses the railway line on the Jalgaon-Bhadli section.
Central Railway said it had taken up the matter with NHAI immediately after the incident and had asked the highway authority to stabilise the damaged wall, provide an appropriate drainage system, conduct a root-cause analysis and restore the affected portion at the earliest.
The railway said technical design details of the wall, the root-cause analysis and the restoration plan were still awaited from NHAI.
“The railway track and train operations are completely safe and normal and there has been no impact on rail traffic due to this incident,” it added. PTI KK NR
