New Delhi, Jul 4 (PTI) The CBI has arrested two men in connection with the alleged leakage of the question paper for a departmental recruitment examination of the South Western Railway, officials said on Saturday.

The arrested accused have been identified as Palvoi Ashok and Sheik Jilani, they added.

They were arrested from Bengaluru on Friday in connection with the alleged leakage of the question paper for the General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE)-2022 conducted for recruitment to the post of goods train manager in the South Western Railway, a spokesperson for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said.

The federal agency had registered the case against 23 accused on a complaint from the South Western Railway alleging criminal conspiracy, cheating and receipt of illegal gratification by a public servant. During the investigation, Ashok and Jilani were arraigned as additional accused, the CBI spokesperson said.

Searches at the premises of Ashok and Jilani led to the recovery of incriminating documents, electronic devices, such as scanners and printers allegedly used for fraud in railway examinations, examination-related records and candidate details, the CBI spokesperson said.

The investigation has also revealed evidence linking the two accused with the alleged conspiracy to leak the question paper and facilitate its distribution among selected candidates before the examination.

The two accused are the kingpins in the leakage of question papers, the CBI spokesperson said.

They were produced on Friday before a Bengaluru court, which sent them to the CBI’s custody for four days. PTI MHS ABS RC
