Jaipur, Jul 28 (PTI) A Jaipur court has taken cognisance of a case related to the death of a nine-year-old student at a private school last year and transferred the matter to a sessions court designated for child cases.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for July 31.
The case pertains to the death of Class 4 student Amayra at Neerja Modi School in Mansarovar area here on November 1, 2025.
The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM-10 Metro-I) Bharati Panwar took cognisance of the police chargesheet and transferred the case to the district and sessions court (juvenile court) for further proceedings, according to a statement.
An application filed by the victim’s family sought addition of further charges against class teacher Puneeta Sharma under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), school principal Indu Dubey and chairman Saurabh Modi under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
The police, in its chargesheet, has invoked Sections 106(1) and 238(c) of the BNS against Dubey, Modi and Sharma, while Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act has been added against Sharma. A sanitation worker, identified as Ramu, has been booked under Section 238(c) of the BNS.
The victim’s parents alleged that the death cannot be treated as a mere accident or simple negligence and demanded a fair and comprehensive judicial probe into alleged lapses in school safety, the child’s treatment and alleged removal of evidence from the spot.
“My daughter cannot come back, but accountability must be fixed so that no other child or family faces such a tragedy,” the victim’s father Vijay Meena said.
Abhishek Jain Bittu, spokesperson of a parents’ association, said the case was a serious warning for the education system and stressed the need for ensuring safety, dignity and protection of children in schools.
He said taking cognisance of the matter marks an important stage in the judicial process and added that the demand for additional charges would now be examined by the competent court. PTI AG KSS KSS
