Ballia (UP), May 13 (PTI) A wedding procession here ended abruptly after the bride allegedly refused to marry because she did not like the saree brought by the groom’s family, leading to a clash between the two sides, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place at Panchrukhi Devi temple in Gayghat village under Revti police station on May 11, where the wedding ceremony was being held, they said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Fahim Qureshi said the marriage was fixed between Niki, daughter of Ajay Gond of Dalan Chhapra village, and Vishal Gond, son of Pawan Gond of Mahadanpur village.

During the ceremony at the temple, the bride allegedly objected to a saree brought by the groom’s side, calling it “unsuitable”, and refused to go ahead with the marriage rituals, the police said.

The disagreement soon escalated into a physical clash between members of the two families, in which the bride’s brother Jeet Nath Gond, her mother Umrawati Devi and another woman, Lakshmi Devi, were injured, Qureshi said.

Following the incident, the wedding procession returned without the marriage being solemnised.

A case has been registered on the complaint of the bride’s father, Ajay Gond, against the groom, Vishal, his relatives Pawan, Manoj, Hareram, and four to six unidentified persons. Further investigation is underway, the police said. PTI COR KIS CDN SMV KSI KSI
