New Delhi: Salman Khan-starrrer Dabangg 3 has landed into controversy for its title track, which shows some sadhus (Hindu saints) playing guitar and dancing along with the actor.

The Prabhu Deva-directed film is the third part of the ‘Dabangg’ franchise and will release on 20 December, but the title track was released on 14 November on YouTube.

With over 34,000 posts, #BoycottDabangg3 is trending on Twitter requesting Hindus to boycott the film.

“Have you seen any Maulvi or Bishop dancing in a film like this?” asked a Twitter user.

Another user wrote, “Insulting our great Saadhus is insulting our culture”

The Hindu Janjagruti Samiti, a right wing group, has demanded a boycott of the movie as it allegedly shows Hindu sadhus performing ‘western -style onscene and seductive dance’. The song also features people dressed as Lord Krishna, Ram and Shiva blessing the actor, which has stirred the controversy.

In a letter to Central Board of Film Certification dated 27 November, the organisation has demanded a cancellation of the censor certificate of the film.

“This song denigrates Hindu Saadhus, Deities and Dharma..the producer has systematically attacked Hindu Dharma and has hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus”, the letter had said.

The Hindu Janjagruti Samiti also protested against Padmawat and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in the past over what it saw as Hindu bashing. A member of the same organisation was charged for criminal conspiracy and murder of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar.
