Shimla, Aug 7 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday directed officials that research be promoted in the state’s medical colleges in order to offer better health care facilities to the patients.
Presiding over a health department meeting here, the chief minister said research in the medical sector is paramount, and a dedicated research department will be established in the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla in the first phase and later the initiative would be replicated in the other medical colleges across the state.
He said his government remains committed to strengthening diagnostic services in health institutions to ensure timely and accurate diagnosis and early treatment, a statement issued here said.
Sukhu said directions have been given to conduct instant diagnostic tests like MRI, CT Scan and X-ray without any waiting period for the patients.
Stressing on conducting in-house blood tests, he further said the state government has released Rs 75 crore for setting up automated labs in three medical colleges: Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties, Chamiyana, IGMC Shimla and Tanda medical college.
According to the chief minister, tenders have been floated to procure machines for establishing these labs so that multiple tests could be done simultaneously using a single blood sample.
The state government is also contemplating procuring quality medicines directly from the manufacturing companies to ensure better availability and standards, and necessary directions have been given in this regard, he said. Underscoring the efforts to improve working conditions for doctors and hospital staff in the state, he added that reforms in the medical sector are being carried out following interactions with faculties and doctors of various medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh. “Their suggestions have already been incorporated into the reform process,” he said.
