Barwani, Sep 7 (PTI) The bodies of a 30-year-old woman from Maharashtra and a man aged 28 were found hanging from a tree in a forest in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district on Monday, with police suspecting the two, married to different persons, committed suicide over an alleged extramarital relationship.
Acting on the information of a shepherd, police reached the forest near the Jain pilgrimage site Bawangaja and found the duo’s bodies hanging from a tree. The deceased were later identified as Sharda (30) and Arjun (28), Barwani police station in-charge Baljeet Singh Bisen said.
According to Bisen, the bodies were hanging from nooses made of the same rope.
Sharda, a native of north Maharashtra’s Jalna district, had two children, while Arjun, a resident of Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district, was the father of three kids, he said.
Based on statements from Arjun’s family members, police learnt he had not been living at home for the past year, Bisen said.
“Arjun had come home (in Dhar district) a few days ago to get a rakhi tied by his sister, and Sharda was with him at the time. After the Rakshabandhan ritual (on August 28), he left home with Sharda,” said the police officer.
Bisen said police prima facie suspected the pair committed suicide due to extramarital love affair. PTI HWP LAL RSY
