New Delhi: The deaths of three minor boys, whose bodies were found in the Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh Wednesday, was caused by severe injuries and not from drowning, as was earlier believed.

Manoj Kumar Singh, PRO to Mirzapur Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Singh, told ThePrint that the post mortem report confirmed the boys had died of injuries sustained prior to their deaths.

The bodies of Sudhanshu Tiwari, Shivam Tiwari and Hariom Tiwari — all aged 14 — were found floating on the Lohariya Dam in the Lalganj forest area of Mirzapur district Wednesday.

Photos of the bodies went viral and were shared on social media with the hashtag #BrahminLivesMatter.

According to the families of the children, their eyes were gouged out and there were evident strain marks on their necks.

However, Singh said the eyes were not gouged out and no caste angle has been identified by the police yet.

Station Head Officer of the Lalganj Police Station Harish Chandra Saroj told ThePrint that the deceased boys had serious and targeted injuries on their necks and eyes.

A Special Investigation Team is also being formed to investigate the triple murder.

The crime

The three boys had allegedly gone to a nearby forest area to collect berries Tuesday afternoon. However, when they did not return home, the families filed a missing persons complaint at the Lalganj Police Station.

On Wednesday, one of the local villagers informed the families that some clothes were lying in the Lehdia Bandhi area in Vindhyachal.

Soon after, family members and the police searched the area, eventually finding the bodies floating in the dam that evening. All three were students of Class 8.

Shivam Tiwari and Hariom Tiwari were first cousins while Sudhanshu Tiwari was their second cousin. The three families had gathered together for a wedding in Lalganj.
