Mumbai, Jun 17 (PTI) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Commissioner Ashwini Joshi’s transfer has been kept in abeyance due to technical reasons related to her responsibilities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process linked to electoral rolls, sources said on Wednesday.

The IAS officer was transferred on Tuesday and appointed Additional Metropolitan Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

Sources in the Maharashtra government said the stay on Joshi’s transfer was necessitated as she is the authorised officer for the electoral roll revision exercise and approval from the Election Commission (EC) is required before relieving her from the present assignment.

The sources insisted the transfer deferment was purely on account of technical requirements and would be withdrawn once the necessary formalities and approvals are completed.

They maintained the stay was temporary and intended to ensure continuity in the SIR process until the EC’s clearance is obtained.
