Jaipur, Oct 26 (PTI) BJP leaders and workers staged a protest against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge here on Monday over his recent controversial remarks targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Protesters, consisting of members of the BJP’s Yuva Morcha, Mahila Morcha and SC Morcha, marched from the party headquarters to the Congress office, raising slogans against Kharge and the opposition party.
However, police stopped them at Chomu House Circle by erecting barricades.
Earlier, the BJP had announced plans to gherao the Congress office, but police did not grant them permission for the protest.
The BJP workers subsequently held a demonstration at Chomu House Circle and burnt an effigy of Kharge.
The protest was part of the BJP’s nationwide agitation against Kharge’s remarks at a programme in Patna on Sunday.
Speaking at the event organised on the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first chief minister Krishna Singh, Kharge said the Congress would send to jail those involved in alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
A member of the audience interrupted his speech and shouted that Prime Minister Modi would not go.
“Modi ka baap bhi jayega, baap bhi jayega (Even Modi’s father would go),” Kharge retorted from the dais.
The remarks drew sharp criticism from the BJP, which accused the Congress president of using insulting and offensive language against the prime minister and his late father. PTI SDA RUK
