BJP will work to ease hardships faced by people in Manipur over last 3 years: CM Khemchand

Imphal, Nov 6 (PTI) Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Friday said the BJP was aware of the hardships faced by people during the last three years and would take steps to address their grievances.

Addressing a political conference in support of BJP’s prospective candidate for Oinam Assembly constituency, Kh Jibon Singh, at Irengbam Mapal Kangjeibung in Bishnupur district, the chief minister said the ethnic conflict had also affected the district.

Assembly elections in the state are likely to be held early next year.

“The conflict that happened was very unfortunate. Its impact was felt very much in Bishnupur as well. Still, we must strive to live as Manipuris. With that in mind, I started reaching out and talking with other communities,” he said.

Singh said he recently visited the Sinai designated camp in Kangpokpi district, where CRPF personnel were deployed, and interacted with Kuki women waiting to meet him.

“I met with Kuki mothers who were waiting for me. There are many in hill areas who want peace. Some want to destroy peace,” he said.

“The BJP knows very well the hardships faced by the people and, more specifically, by the mothers and women during the last three years, and the party will definitely make sure that those hardships are eased,” he said.

Praising Jibon Singh for his organisational work during the difficult period, the chief minister said he had stood by the people and worked to strengthen the BJP.

“During one of the most challenging periods of trial and hardship, when uncertainty and anguish weighed heavily on the community, Jibon Singh stepped forward as a tireless beacon of support and dedication,” he said.

The CM urged people to support Jibon Singh in the Assembly elections, saying the responsibility of electing an MLA rested with voters, while the leadership would decide the responsibilities assigned to him in the Assembly. PTI COR MNB
