Chandigarh, Jul 2 (PTI) Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Thursday opposed the AAP government’s land pooling policy, saying it is anti-farmer and aimed at taking control of farmers’ land instead of promoting development.

In a statement, Dhillon claimed that the policy would adversely affect farmers, whose land is their primary source of livelihood.

He questioned whether commercial or residential plots offered under the policy could provide a sustainable source of income for farming families.

The BJP leader said farmers had strongly opposed a similar land pooling proposal introduced by the state government last year and alleged that the policy was being reintroduced despite those objections.

Accusing the AAP government of acting at the behest of its central leadership, Dhillon alleged that the policy was intended to benefit vested interests at the cost of Punjab’s farmers.

He also claimed that the government was attempting to mislead farmers with promises of development.

Dhillon said the BJP would oppose the implementation of the land pooling policy and stand with farmers to protect their rights.

He demanded that the Punjab government withdraw the policy and reverse its decision.

He further alleged that the policy would harm both farmers and the state’s overall interests and warned that the BJP would continue its opposition until it is scrapped.

The AAP government has maintained that its land pooling policy is aimed at planned urban development and that participation is voluntary.

However, the policy has drawn criticism from opposition parties and some farmer organisations. PTI VSD APL APL
