Bengaluru, Jun 25 (PTI) BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Thursday raised concerns over alleged recurring service disruptions in Bengaluru Metro operations and sought immediate corrective measures, a comprehensive safety audit, and accountability within the BMRCL.

This comes after metro services on the Purple Line were affected on Tuesday evening during peak hours due to a technical snag in a train at Cubbon Park Metro Station.

Surya has written to the Commissioner of Railway Safety, highlighting the urgent need for safety and accountability in BMRCL operations, and to Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, requesting corrective measures over the alleged recurring service disruptions in Bengaluru Metro operations.

The disruption on June 23 (Tuesday) led to heavy crowding at several metro stations on the Purple Line, with several commuters getting stranded and being forced to look for alternative modes of transport, including autos and app-based cabs, to reach their destinations.

Taking to social media platform X, Surya posted copies of the letters and claimed that since January 2024, nearly 20 reported technical faults and service disruptions have occurred across the Bengaluru Metro network, with the Purple Line accounting for the highest number of incidents.

“This is no longer about isolated breakdowns. It points to a pattern that raises serious concerns about the safety and reliability of Metro operations,” he said.

The BJP MP said he spoke with several experts in metro safety and systems engineering on Thursday and has written to BMRCL with a set of recommendations based on their inputs.

“I have also written to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (Southern Circle), requesting that he take cognisance of the matter and initiate whatever measures are necessary to ensure the highest standards of operational safety by holding BMRCL to account,” he said.

Surya also requested that a detailed Action Taken Report be sought and monitored by the Commission in the interest of the safety, security and convenience of the lakhs of commuters who rely on the Bengaluru Metro every day. PTI AMP ADB
