Udhagamandalam (Tamil Nadu) May 18 (PTI) BJP MLA C Bhojarajan on Monday strongly condemned the Nilgiris district administration for allegedly failing to extend formal invitations to elected representatives for the 128th Flower Show, which commenced at the Government Botanical Garden here.
Bhojarajan represents Udhagamandalam Assembly constituency.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the world-renowned garden, he slammed the authorities for bypassing protocol.
He claimed that formal government invitations were not sent to key public representatives of the region, including Nilgiris Member of Parliament A Raja, Coonoor MLA K M Raju, Gudalur MLA Dravida Mani, and himself.
The BJP legislator also expressed strong displeasure over the absence of Nilgiris District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Taneeru at the inaugural event, questioning the official handling of the prestigious annual festival.
“Elected representatives chosen by the people have been completely ignored by the administration for a major government event,” Bhojarajan said.
Drawing a comparison with previous editions, the MLA noted that the flower show was organised in a highly grand and structured manner by the former chief minister last year, but the standard and execution have drastically deteriorated this year.
The 128th edition of the iconic flower show, a major tourist puller in the hill station, opened to the public on Monday, will be on till May 28. PTI CORR JR JR KH
