New Delhi, Sep 28 (PTI) Union ministers and senior BJP leaders on Monday paid tributes to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on her birth anniversary, remembering the “Nightingale of India” for her contribution to Indian music and her enduring appeal across generations.
Mangeshkar was born on September 28, 1929, and died on February 6, 2022.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Mangeshkar was a symbol of simplicity and gentleness.
“In Lata Didi’s notes, there was ease, steadiness and a deep sense of intimacy, which left every listener spellbound. Lata Didi, who enriched the music of numerous languages and dialects with her voice, will forever reside in the hearts of her countrymen through her songs,” Shah posted on X.
BJP national president Nitin Nabin said Mangeshkar’s voice gave Indian music global recognition and became part of the memories of generations.
“Lata Didi’s voice brought recognition to Indian music across the world, and her voice became a part of the memories of generations. Her songs, imbued with patriotism, also gave voice to national sentiments. Her invaluable contribution to Indian music and culture will always be remembered,” he wrote on X.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh wrote about how Mangeshkar’s voice connected generations to a world of emotions where love, devotion and patriotism resonated together.
“Mangeshkar ji, revered as the Nightingale of India, connected generations of this country through her voice to a world of emotions where the melodies of love, devotion, and patriotism resonate together. Her voice resides not just in songs, but in the heart of every Indian. Her music is timeless, and her legacy will remain immortal forever,” he said in a post on X.
Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari also paid tribute to Mangeshkar, describing her as “Swara Kokila” and recalling that she was a recipient of the Bharat Ratna.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju described Mangeshkar as a powerful expression of India’s musical tradition and hailed her as “Swara Samragini”.
“With her sweet and unparalleled voice, Lata Didi gave Indian music a new identity across the world; her voice continues to resonate in the hearts of generations even today. Her unparalleled contribution in the field of music and art is an invaluable treasure of our rich Indian cultural heritage,” he said on X.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Mangeshkar’s timeless melodies have left an unparalleled legacy in the world of music.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recalled her contribution to enriching the heritage of Indian music and her “unparalleled vocal artistry” that will remain etched in history.
BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde said Mangeshkar’s unique voice will continue to resonate in the hearts of music lovers in India and across the world.
