Bengaluru, June 11 (PTI) BJP Karnataka unit president B Y Vijayendra on Thursday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for becoming the longest-serving Prime Minister in India.
He said the BJP-led NDA government’s 12-year tenure had transformed the country into the world’s fourth-largest economy and strengthened public faith in governance.
Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, Vijayendra said Modi had surpassed the record of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru by completing 4,399 consecutive days in office and described the occasion as a landmark moment in the country’s political history.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the longest-serving Prime Minister in India’s democratic history to hold office continuously. By completing 4,399 days in office, he surpassed the record of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru,” Vijayendra said.
He alleged that people had lost faith in corruption-free governance during the UPA era and said Modi had restored confidence by providing clean administration and development-oriented governance.
“India today continues to progress despite global challenges and has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest economy,” he said.
Vijayendra credited Modi’s leadership for India’s economic growth amid global crises, expansion of infrastructure, growth in defence manufacturing and exports, and the reduction of Naxal-affected districts from 126 before 2014 to 10 in 2026.
He also highlighted investments in the North-Eastern states, saying the region had witnessed significant railway, highway and airport development since 2014.
The BJP leader said the Centre had invested more than Rs 12 lakh crore in infrastructure since 2014, expanded the national highway network, increased railway allocations, and boosted renewable energy capacity. He also cited welfare schemes such as PM-Kisan, Ujjwala Yojana and Jal Jeevan Mission as examples of the government’s outreach to farmers, women and poor households.
Referring to Karnataka, Vijayendra said the state had benefited through tax devolution, railway projects worth over Rs 31,000 crore, national highway expansion and central welfare schemes.
