New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) The BJP on Wednesday slammed Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for his recent remarks about Lord Ram and Lord Shiva, and accused the Congress of trying to create divisions within Hindus.

On Monday, Reddy claimed that the Congress is successful only in the south but not in the northern states, as the “BJP stole Lord Ram who is revered in the north, while Shiva is worshipped in the southern states”.

Addressing a conclave organised by a media organisation in Delhi, the Telangana chief minister also said Shiva is the God of the poor while Ram is the God of the rich, and the BJP is a party of the rich.

“We are Dravidians. People here (north) are Aryans. We are devotees of Shiva. These are devotees of Lord Ram. BJP stole Ram. It’s an emotion. It’s a sentiment. Why doesn’t Modi ji say, ‘Har Har Mahadev?’ Have BJP people ever said Har Har Mahadev on a stage? They say only Jai Sri Ram. When we say Har Har Mahadev, they don’t like it,” Reddy said.

Reacting to Reddy’s remarks, BJP spokesperson Sudhansu Trivedi alleged that the Congress, which has been fully complicit in every conspiracy to divide Hindu society with all its might, has now stooped to the level of dividing the Hindu gods themselves.

“I believe this is one of the most vile examples of politics in India,” he said at the press conference at the BJP headquarters here. PTI PK ASD ASD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
