New Delhi, Sep 14 (PTI) BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Monday appealed to people to light an ‘Aashirwad ka Diya’ at their homes on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17 and pray for his long life and good health.
The BJP has announced a month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ from September 17 to October 17 to mark Modi’s 25 years in public life, with a series of programmes focusing on public participation, welfare outreach and youth engagement.
The party will observe Modi’s birthday as ‘Seva Diwas’, with the ‘Aashirwad ka Diya’ programme and blood donation camps planned across the country.
In a video message posted on X, Nabin said “service to the people is service to the nation” has been the guiding principle of Modi’s life and that under his leadership, India is moving forward with the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
He appealed to people to light an ‘Aashirwad ka Diya’ between 6 pm and 7 pm on the prime minister’s birthday.
“I will light an Aashirwad ka Diya, and I appeal to my fellow Indians as well: Come, you too light an Aashirwad ka Diya and pray for the long life and continued success of our Prime Minister,” he said.
Nabin said Modi, after taking over the leadership of the country, faced “very difficult circumstances” and formulated new policies, launched new programmes and introduced several schemes that brought about changes in the lives of ordinary people.
Lauding Modi’s leadership during the Covid pandemic, Nabin said the prime minister gave people the confidence that the country could move forward and “turn challenges into opportunities”.
He said that during the coronavirus period, India’s vaccination programme sent a message to the world that the country was moving towards an “Atmanirbhar Bharat”.
Nabin also highlighted initiatives for youth and women, saying efforts were made to make the country’s youth “self-reliant” and “economically independent” through startup initiatives, while women were given “dignity” and “self-reliance” through sanitation, toilet schemes and the Lakhpati Didi initiative.
“We believe that under the successful leadership of the Prime Minister, the women of this country will get their rights and, with that confidence, will continue to move forward,” he said.
Nabin also credited Modi with “uprooting” Naxalism from the country, saying its roots had affected more than 200 districts.
“Today, in 2026, as we stand here, India has become free from Naxalism,” he said.
On terrorism, Nabin said the country had remained under the “shadow of terrorism” and in an “atmosphere of fear” for a long time, but the prime minister has given a “strong response” to the threat.
“Today, our borders are secure, and anyone who looks at us with evil intentions is given a befitting response,” he said.
Nabin said these changes have brought confidence into the lives of ordinary people and strengthened their faith in the country’s development trajectory.
“The Prime Minister’s goal has been to put the country on the path of development, and the people have placed their faith in this goal,” he said.
He said the country must together fulfil the dream of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ that Modi has given for 2047. PTI ADI MDO MDO
