New Delhi, Aug 7 (PTI) Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra on Friday introduced a Bill seeking to repeal the existing ‘Bed and Breakfast Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2007’ in the Delhi Assembly during its monsoon session.
The legislation comes in the wake of the Malviya Nagar fire tragedy in June that tore through a bed and breakfast facility, claiming 21 lives including 11 foreign nationals.
The facility was allegedly running without requisite permissions.
Mishra tabled the “Delhi Bed and Breakfast Establishments (Repeal) Bill, 2026 (Bill No 08 of 2026)” in the House for discussion. The Bill is expected to be passed on Monday, officials said.
In the aftermath of the Malviya Nagar tragedy, Mishra had announced withdrawal of The National Capital Territory of Delhi (Incredible India) Bed and Breakfast Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2007 and its amendment acts, 2010 and 2021.
As of 2023, more than 2,200 rooms across 432 properties in the national capital have been registered under Delhi government’s Bed and Breakfast (B&B) scheme. PTI VIT VIT APL APL
