Patna, Oct 26 (PTI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday virtually flagged off IndiGo’s first non-stop international flight from Gayaji to Thailand’s capital Bangkok.

The new route is expected to boost tourism, cultural exchange and economic activities, particularly in the Magadh region, while strengthening Bihar’s international air connectivity, Choudhary said.

It will also give fresh impetus to religious, cultural and tourism ties between Bihar, “the land of Lord Buddha’s enlightenment and compassion”, and Thailand, the CM said.

“The first non-stop international flight service will facilitate travel for Buddhist pilgrims and foreign tourists visiting Bodh Gaya and benefit local businesses, including hotels, transport operators and handicraft enterprises,” a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said.

Expressing gratitude to IndiGo, the chief minister said the Bihar government would continue to encourage collaboration and coordination to expand international air services.

Choudhary said the state was working to expand air connectivity through the airports in Patna, Darbhanga, Gaya and Purnea, and exploring opportunities to introduce services on new international routes. PTI PKD RBT

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
