Hyderabad, Jun 10 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday unveiled plans to develop Bharat Future City into a world-class urban hub.
He said the city, being developed on the outskirts of Hyderabad, would rival global metros such as Tokyo and New York by 2034.
Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the office of the Future City Development Authority on Wednesday evening, he said the Future City, coming up on the outskirts of Hyderabad, would be a hub of green pharma, sports, education, health, AI, data centres and global Fortune 500 companies.
Construction of the FCDA office began in December last year, he said, adding that the timeline reflects the government’s commitment to speedy planning and execution.
“The Bharat Future City should be the venue for Telangana to emerge as a USD one trillion economy by 2034. By then, we have to build the city to compete with Tokyo, New York and Singapore. I direct the officials to prepare the plans necessary to achieve the goal,” he said.
June 10, 2026, will be a golden-letter day in history as the FCDA office is inaugurated, he said.
Earlier in the day, he wrote on X, “Whenever some of the fortunate among us travelled abroad and saw the great cities of the world, we wished we had such modern, well-planned and efficiently managed cities in our own country. The answer to that collective aspiration of Indians is #BharatFutureCity.” Similar to Hyderabad’s reputation as a city of pearls, biryani, lakes and rocks, the Bharat Future City would emerge as a net-zero world-class city, Reddy said.
Hitting out at the opposition BRS leadership for announcing that the party would abolish the Future City project if it came to power, he said Shukracharya, the guru of demons in ancient texts, is “taking rest in a farmhouse”, while his disciples Maricha and Subahu are going around.
In the analogy, Shukracharya refers to BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, while Maricha and Subahu refer to his son K T Rama Rao and nephew T Harish Rao, respectively.
“The big and small demons say they will cancel Future City. I am asking whether Future City should be cancelled or expanded. The Future City would provide a great future to the coming generations,” he claimed.
BRS is like a “banned thousand rupee note”— rendered worthless overnight — and has no future, he said, adding that if the party continues to oppose the Future City project, it would not secure even opposition status after the next assembly elections in 2028.
He said some people had opposed Hitech City, the Outer Ring Road, the international airport, and IT and pharma companies — projects that are now iconic landmarks of Hyderabad.
Further attacking BRS, Reddy asked who was responsible for widespread waterlogging and traffic snarls in Hyderabad following rain on June 9, alleging that the situation was a result of encroachment of water bodies, drainages, public parks and illegal constructions on government lands during the previous BRS regime.
Saying that cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru are beset with civic infrastructure problems, he asked whether Hyderabad should learn from the experiences of other metropolitan cities.
The Congress government is mercilessly removing encroachments, including at Bathukammakunta lake, allegedly encroached upon by a BRS leader, he added. PTI SJR SSK
